Kuan-Yu Lai, the owne r of Formos a Tribe Handicrafts House, has always believed that what makes Taitung special is the aboriginal culture. Although he is not an aborigine, he grew up in a tribal village and has been passionate about the irculture. Mr. Lai opened this store in 2007 and partners with some 20 studios from different tribes to fully demonstrate the beauty of aboriginal arts. Besides handicrafts, on the second floor he also displays installation art pieces of the Maple Leaf Baseball Team, delicious sugar apples and Hantan (the God of Wealth), all of which represent the spirit of Taitung. Additionally, he also offers a platform for tourists to share travel journals or exchange information with each other. In light of localization and innovation, Mr. Lai realizes aesthetics in everyday life and hopes that traditions can be integrated into our lives. Moreover, he insists on providing customized services and practical aboriginal handicrafts.
