In Taiwan, from south to north, from small town to big city, we can see many locally featured products that people living there are so proud of. The formation and development process of local featured product, which plays an important role in economy, has close relationship with local natural environment, weather condition, race and population, industry characteristics as well as history and culture.

Taiwan is a very unique island. Geographically speaking, it is a high mountain island formed by the squeezing action between Eurasian Plate and Philippine plate, its landscape is diversified and beautiful scenes can be seen everywhere. Speaking about the weather, Taiwan is located on the tropic of Cancer, its weather belongs to tropical and subtropical weather zone, however, due to the high mountain, sub-frigid zone weather can also be seen on the island. All these special features provide development opportunities for agriculture, forestry, fishery, pasturage and mining industry, and thus, products with local features are plasticized.
Along with booming in Taiwan’s economy and the government’s policy of ”One Town one product”, many local industries which combine local industries features, ecology, humanities and nature start to emerge. Taiwan has many local featured products and what will be introduced here by us will be based mainly on local featured products which have been processed; these include artwork and processed food. Many kinds of artworks are made through the use of material produced locally, for example, because bamboo is so abundant in Chushan Township, Nantou County, bamboo artwork thus becomes local representative of artwork; the cannonball steel knife made in Chinmen County is mainly based on the massive cannonball pieces left after 823 cannon battle as the raw materials, it is now one of the famous featured products of Chinmen County. Other artworks such as glass beads in San-Ti-Men Township of Pingtung County and the knit of Atayal Tribe of Nantou County are artworks that possess abundant features of Indigenous People. Taiwan is a big agricultural island and is abundant in seafood due to its surrounding by seas on its four sides. Therefore, agricultural processed products and seafood processed products are all products that possess high added values and local cultural features. For example, the black tea of Yu-Chih Township of Nantou County, the coffee of Ku-Keng Township of Yunlin County, the Sakura shrimp of Pingtung County, the peanut cake of Chinmen, and bean curd of Tahsi Township are all the best accompanying gifts for a travel, so, if you have the chance to come to the local place, do not forget to get some back, these products are filled with thick Taiwan flavor.
